Behind the scenes footage of Rachael’s new movie ‘Summer Coda’ is now available on the official AFI Youtube channel. Rachael herself does not appear in the two videos, though. It is still nice to get a glimpse of the process that went into making the film.

And for all those of us who weren’t lucky enough to see ‘Summer Coda’ at the Melbourne International Film Festival, the videos offer a few brief looks at scenes that weren’t featured in the trailer. This is the first part and the second part can be found here.

It has been reported that Rachael has split from boyfriend Matthew Newton amid allegations of domestic violence.
She applied for a temporary restraining order- known as an ‘apprehended violence order’ (AVO) after suffering serious injuries consistent with blows to the face and body during a public altercation in the foyer of a Rome hotel.
The police were called to the scene, but no charges were filed.

Today Rachael released the following statement:

“After much consideration and struggle I have made this personal decision to send a clear public message that violence, threats, abuse and intimidation are not acceptable and should be dealt with by the full capacity of the law.”

We are very sorry that Rachael had to make such a horrifying experience and wish her a speedy recovery- both physically and mentally.

Rachael has joined Fashion Targets Breast Cancer as one of their new ambassadors for 2010. Model Emma Balfour is also part of this year’s campaign. In the black and white ad Rachael wears nothing but a black and white silk blanket with the campaign’s logo on it. The charity aims to raise $200,000 as well as awareness about the disease. A spokesperson for the charity said they chose the two women because

“They are beautiful women with careers and make great role models.”

This is what Rachael, herself said about the campaign:

”It’s a great way to raise awareness among young women who love fashion,” she said. ”All the money raised is channelled towards research that benefits younger sufferers and the unique challenges they face.”

So far, I have only been able to find a very small picture of the ad. But I’ll keep my eyes open for a bigger version. And if you find one don’t hesitate to send me and email. Meanwhile, you can already take a look here.

Back in 2005/2006 Rachael starred in the Australian television soap ‘headLand’. Despite the shows short run from November to January, Rachael was nominated for a Logie Award in the category Most Popular New Female Talent. Here’s a brief description of the show:

Set in the town of South Heads on the Southern Eastern coastline of Australia, the Headlands Hotel and South Coast University are the centre of the show as we enter the world of South Heads along with newly appointed student counsellor, Adam Wilde. Through him and fellow counsellor Grace we venture with them into the minds of the students as they deal with the pressures of study, the frustrations of everyday life, and the heartbreak of shattered loves.

Screen caps of episodes 1 and 54 have already been added to the gallery. And I will be working on trying to get all 60 episodes up.

I have put up a new gallery layout. I think it fits the current weather and the arrival of Summer much more. I hope you like it as much as I do. Also in the works is a new layout for the main site- that might take a little longer, though. For now you can enjoy our lovely fresh gallery layout:

Actress Rachael Taylor admits she almost gave up her part in the upcoming Aussie film Summer Coda because of the “terrifying” task of having to learn the violin.

The Transformers star now says she’s glad she stuck with it, describing the experience of making the romantic drama as “amazing”.

Set against the backdrop of the orange groves of Mildura, along the Murray River, Summer Coda has been six years in the making for young, first-time Melbourne director Richard Gray.

It stars Taylor as Heidi, an American violin player who travels to rural Victoria for her estranged father’s funeral and forms an initially guarded connection with orange grove owner Michael, played by Alex Dimitriades.

The film [...] is set for release in Australia on October 21.

“I told him I felt like I couldn’t do the part, I said ‘mate I have to be honest with you I feel like I’m unable to do it’,” says Taylor, who’s dating fellow actor Matthew Newton.

“The violin is terrifying, it’s a confronting part, and I wasn’t sure I was properly prepared for it.

“You don’t want to embarrass yourself, Richard’s been developing this project for six years, I told him he deserved somebody who felt capable,” she adds.

But Gray wouldn’t have it, telling Taylor she was perfect for the part.

Taylor describes Summer Coda, which was filmed in Mildura and the US, as a gentle journey about complex relationships.

“What do you do when you go to your father’s funeral, who you haven’t spoken to since you were eight and you meet his new wife and his new son, there’s no handbook on how to handle those moments in life, and that’s what the film’s about.”

As you can see there’s a new layout. Admittedly, it’s been a while since we’ve had a fresh look- or any updates for that matter. But I decided I want to change that in the year to come. So this new layout is only the first step to get Rachael Taylor Fan back on track.
Two of Rachael movies ‘Ghost Machine’ and ‘Cedar Boys’ were recently released on DVD. And I have already made screen captures of Rachael as Amie in the latter. You can count on more updates in the days, weeks and months to follow and I can promise you that Rachael Taylor Fan will once again become your premiere destination for all things Rachael!
Here’s a reminder for all those of you who have already forgotten what the site used to look like:
